Davis Endorses McBride in Congressional Race

State Treasurer Colleen Davis, fresh from ending her candidacy for Congress due to health reasons, has endorsed State Senator and fellow candidate Sarah McBride for Congress. Video of the event is included below.

The endorsement marks the fourth Delaware statewide elected official to endorse McBride, after Attorney General Kathy Jennings, Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro, and State Auditor Lydia York.

Treasurer Colleen Davis said of her endorsement, “It’s time for Democrats to unite behind a candidate who can hit the ground running as our lone member of Congress and truly deliver for working families across Delaware. I’m confident that candidate is my friend, Sarah McBride. Sarah will fight for Delawareans with every bone in her body and, just as she’s done in Dover, she will bring people together to make government work better for all of us. Sarah is the right candidate to fill the big shoes of our incredible Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, which is why I’m so proud to endorse her.”

In response to the news, Senator Sarah McBride said, “I am deeply honored to have the support of Treasurer Davis. Colleen is a remarkable public servant who serves our state of neighbors with courage and compassion every day as our Treasurer. Not only has Colleen been an effective leader in state government, but she’s also become a real friend over the last six years. 

“The last time we stood on these steps together, the Healthy Delaware Families Act was being signed into law. Colleen was a critical partner to me in passing paid family and medical leave and I have no doubt she will be a critical partner throughout the course of this campaign and when I am hopefully elected to serve as your next member of Congress.”

McBride has been endorsed by more than twenty Delaware elected officials, community organizers, Delaware’s strongest labor unions, and national advocacy organizations. She has also garnered near unanimous support across the entire Democratic caucus, with endorsements from caucuses representing nearly every Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
