House Bill 79 is interesting. It would require that the State’s food safety standards for restaurants include a system for requiring healthy beverages to be offered as the default beverage within combination meals, like a McDonald’s Happy Meal or their equivalent at other restaurants.
This requirement does not prohibit the restaurant’s ability to sell, or a customer’s ability to choose, a substitute or alternative beverage as-requested by a customer. If a parent wants to give their kid a Coke, they can, but they will have to ask for it. Otherwise, they get Milk or Apple Juice by default.
