Well, that sucked. It always amazes me how automoton a good many Delaware Democratic primary voters are. Oh, the party wants Carper, Jennings and McGuiness, well then, lets vote for them. I know, I know, sour grapes and sore loser am I. And maybe I live in a progressive bubble. I’ll vote for Carper and Jennings, but I refuse to vote for Kathy McGuiness. I will be voting for Republican Jim Spadola for Auditor instead and encourage everyone to do the same.
So Tom Carper (D) will face Trumpist Ron Arlett (R) in November. Not surprising. The surprise is that the Homemade Sign Guy Scott Walker won the GOP nomination. How embarrassing is that for the Delaware GOP? The man ran as a Democrat in 2016 as a crank candidate. As a crank candidate, he assumed he’d get a better hearing in the GOP and he was right.
In the Attorney General race, Kathy Jennings defeated the primary field convincingly with 56% of the vote. I guess her TV ads worked. Surprisingly, Lakresha Roberts came in second and Chris Johnson third. Very disappointing. But thank you to Chris for running a great progressive race for criminal justice reform.
In the Auditor race, Republican Utahn Kathy McGuiness won 41-35 over Kathleen Davies, with Dennis E. Williams ending up playing spoiler with 23% of the vote, thus ending his political career in Delaware forever. Republican James Spadola ran an unconventional race in 2016 against Harris McDowell in the first Senate District, to McDowell’s left. He deserves a look from you. But he’s got my vote.
Before I move onto the surprises and nonsurprises in the General Assembly races, I think we all need to thank Kerri Evelyn Harris for running a great race against Tom Carper. I hope and pray she stays involved in Delaware politics. She is a passionate voice for progressive principles. I hope she runs for something again.

I am very angry, because I actually spoke to Dennis Williams. I told him the one outcome I would not be able to abide in the state auditor primary would be the vote splitting between him and Kathleen Davis, and look what it did! How did someone who is that blind even get enough of a following to get into politics in the first place?

No, he’s supposed to get out of politics because everyone who knows him dislikes him. What kind of dick do you have to be for your own campaign manager to turn around and run against you?
I don’t know about that. Besides, “likability” is hardly a qualification for an office that by it’s nature requires an arms length distance.
Which is why I would have voted for him had Davies not been in the race. But if you’re not likable, you’re not electable, and therefore ought to look for another profession.
Besides, he’s a dick. It’s hard to find truly disliked people in Delaware politics, which is full of egotistical but otherwise bland people.
To be fair, doesn’t seem like Davies had the greatest reputation in the likability category

Maybe you should find out something about Ray Seigfried before you make a negative comment. He is every bit as “progressive” as the other candidates, experienced, tenacious, intelligent and worked his ass off. Contrary to your opinion, Ray is the best candidate to run against the GOP and has the smarts, guts and shoe leather to do it.
Good. I didn’t mean to cast any aspersions, as I don’t know. But I will remedy that shortly and I am glad he is a progressive.

I agree. We will have to clarify that. If Seigfried supports charter schools he won’t get my support (not that I live in his district).
I’m throwing 100% of my energy behind Spadola, and everyone should do the same. I’m unpopular here in Sussex for my lack of support for McGuiness. There’s just a disengenous quality that I don’t feel will serve our the citizens of our State with any measurable quality. It’s not personal, just politics!
There’s no question that she’s served Rehoboth with great positive energy, but there’s enough issues here to resolve to keep her busy and in public service.
I completely agree. She is a socialite who has run for office so she can attend more events and parties with her political friends and intimates. Everything about her is disingenuous. Down to her status as a Democrat and a Delawarean. I will not vote for her.

I am disappointed with the New Castle County District 1 result. What a heartbreaker.. Jordyn would have been a much needed vote for sensible growth and land preservation for what is left of open space in New Castle County. Atleast David Carter won and will be a vote to reign in the development.

Spadola is a great candidate and mark my words is going to be very influential and turn around the Republican party in Delaware. He’ll work to cross aisles and make Delaware a Blue & Red state….for the better of all!
I live in the 7th and supported Joe Daigle with money and signs on my property. Seigfreid ran a solid campaign knocked my hood and had the most visible support at the Arden Fair ( he lives in Arden)) He had Labor and my least favorite Councilman Cartier. His views are generally progressive but not as much and as such I sense he fits the district. The Republican is pretty awful I will be writing a check and planting a new sign.
