Delaware

The Agenda – March 29, 2023

Yesterday the Senate passed three session-defining bills: the Delaware Marijuana Control Act (House Bills 1 and 2) that legalizes and regulates recreational marijuana in the First State, and the Senate Bill 1, the Tenant Right to Counsel law. The marijuana bills head to the Governor’s desk, where they await an uncertain fate. The right to counsel bill heads to House, where, likewise, it’s future depends on the capriciousness of the Speaker and his allies.

HOUSE AGENDA – It’s Committee Day, so there will be not much floor action on legislation in the House today as it recovenes at 2 pm. In fact, the House Agenda says that they will only run Resolutions and there will be no bills on the Agenda.

SENATE AGENDA – Likewise, the Senate reconvenes at 2 pm, and they have two bills on their agenda:

SB 34 LockmanAN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 24 AND TITLE 28 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS.
SB 37WalshAN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 29 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO THE STATE DOG.

One of those bills is of interest for us: Senate Bill 34, which will repeal and ban all state statutes still on the books that allow discrimination in public accommodations.
