Currently in Delaware, social workers with the Division of Family Services, or as I like to call it, the Kids Department, have a caseload of 18 families, which makes it difficult to give the necessary attention to each family. Senate Bill 33, introduced by Senator Kyle Evans Gay, would reduce that caseload to a maximum of 12.
However, capping caseloads at 12 will of course demand more staff to close the gap, and that is something that this legislation does not address… yet. Or perhaps a separate bill or a budget item will increase funding for recruitment and hiring at the Kids Department.
