Resign Mr. Speaker

Earlier this week, the State Senate entered into Special Session called by President Pro-Tempore Senator Dave Sokola (D) to initiate the removal of State Auditor Kathleen McGuiness from office due to her criminal convitions of abuse of office.

Here is the Resolution the Senate voted on. The resolution passed 13 to 7 to 1. Here is the vote breakdown.

Senator Darius Brown, familiar recently with criminal proceedings and violent assault himself, voted with the criminal approving Republicans.

Yet the resolution is already essentially dead because the corrupt Speaker, Pete Schwartzkopf, chose to protect his “friend” Kathy McGuiness from having to face accountability from the General Assembly. He announced in the statement below that he will not bring the House of Representatives back into session to vote on this resolution.

House Democrats now face a choice: either be labeled as corrupt themselves for going along with their leader; or call for his immediate resignation and the election of a new leadership team at the earliest opportunity.

Meanwhile, the State DOJ has dropped a ton of evidence that was excluded from trial in their brief in opposition to the convicted Defendant’s Motion to Dismiss. Read the whole thread.

House Democrats should rightly see themselves as hung out to dry by their leadership here. Everyone of them is running for re-elect and not one of them should have been left to make excuses for leadership who won’t take a stand for either their members or for the voters who trust Democrats to treat their offices far more seriously than the current Auditor has. Remember this when you get to Leadership votes, State Reps.

We must make the push to have someone fight for leadership in the new year. The caucus deserves better. We deserve better.

    • Left organizers should refuse to help reps, even “good” reps, who have not made clear that they will support new leadership. This leadership has made it loud and clear that electing more Dems in the House means nothing for the Dem agenda. Nothing happens unless Val decides it makes her look good, and even then Pete will kill legislation that the party supports. It’s only ever the Senate doing the work. So why should Moms Demand Action, Indivisible, Dem committees etc. put resources behind House incumbent races when they’re getting nothing in return?
