Currently, Delaware regulations state that school bus transportation must be provided for students in grades 7 though 12 if they live two or more miles from the school. For grades K though 6, school bus transportation is provided if the student lives one or more miles from the school.
House Bill 110 will expand the latter category to grade 8, so that students in grades 7 and 8 can get school bus transportation if they live 1 or more miles from the school.
This bill only applies to students who attend public schools where their enrollment is based upon the residence of their parents (i.e. neighborhood school), and it does not to students who attend charter schools or schools in different districts by choice.
