Yeah, I know, the title “Gun Shop Project” sounds like we are promoting Gun Shops in some way. In reality, it is a project to prevent suicide by training gun shop owners to recognize clients that are high risk for suicide, and to require the placement of educational material on suicide prevention in all Gun Shops in Delaware.
House Bill 55 establishes the Delaware Gun Shop Project in Delaware, which will be overseen and managed by the Delaware Suicide Prevention Coalition. The Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, which staff the Coalition, will staff the Gun Shop Project.
The bill has already passed the House 40-0-1, and it will be considered by the Senate in a few weeks after the Joint Finance Committee break in the session ends.
