The Upcoming House & Senate Schedule

The House and Senate Schedule this week has featured the virtual swearing in and the adoption of the rules and other organizational votes, and confirmation votes for some Carney Administration officials yesterday in the Senate, while the House held committee meetings to start considering some legislation, which we will cover in separate upcoming posts.

Both the House and Senate have released a tentative schedule for the remaining session days in January.


The Senate

  • Thursday, January 14 — Senate session (2 p.m.) — Joint Senate/House session to affirm results of Governor, Lieutenant Governor elections 
  • Tuesday, January 19 — Governor’s Inauguration (10 a.m.) — Joint Capital Improvement Committee (11:15 a.m.) — Committee Hearings (Times TBD) — Senate session (2 p.m.) 
  • Wednesday, January 20 — No Session Scheduled (Inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris) 
  • Thursday, January 21 — Senate committee hearings (Times TBD) — Senate session (2 p.m.) 
  • Tuesday, January 26 — Governor’s State of State Address (2 p.m.) — Senate Session (to follow State of State) 
  • Wednesday, January 27 — Senate committee hearings (Times TBD) 
  • Thursday, January 28 — Governor’s Budget Address (12 p.m.)  — Senate session (2 p.m.) 

The House

  • Thursday, January 14 — House Economic Development Committee – 11 AM — House Session – 2 PM  — Joint House/Senate Session – Time TBA (Reading of Gov./Lt. Gov. Election Returns) 
  • Tuesday, January 19  — Governor’s Inauguration (10 am) — House Committees TBA – 3 PM 
  • Wednesday, January 20 — No House Committees or Session Scheduled — Inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris
  • Thursday, January 21 — House Committees TBA – 11 AM — House Session – 2 PM
  • Tuesday, January 26 — House Committees TBA – 11 AM — Governor’s State of the State Address – 2 PM — House Committees TBA – 4 PM 
  • Wednesday, January 27 — House Committees TBA – 11 AM — House Session – 2 PM 
  • Thursday, January 28 — Governor’s Budget Address – Time TBA — House Session – 2 PM  

Session of the full Senate will be live streamed on the General Assembly’s website and can be accessed under the section marked “Live Proceedings.” Those wishing to watch session proceedings after they have concluded can find recordings by following links under the “Meetings & Archives” tab at the top of the page.  

Committee meetings will also be held virtually using Zoom webinars. Members of the public are encouraged to attend all virtual committee meetings of the General Assembly and make comments on pending legislation. Registration is required. Links for registration will be posted on the General Assembly website, as each meeting is announced, on the Committee Meetings page

Sessions of the full House, including joint sessions of the House and Senate, will be streamed live on the General Assembly’s website, under the section marked “Live Proceedings.” Those wishing to watch session proceedings after it has concluded can watch recordings by following links under the “Meetings & Archives” tab at the top of the page.  

Committees of the House will meet via Zoom Webinar, the same platform that has been used successfully in recent months for meetings of legislative bodies such as the Law Enforcement Accountability Task Force, the African American Task Force, and their associated subcommittees.  

The General Assembly will recess at the end of January for meetings of the Joint Finance Committee and the Joint Committee on Capital Improvement.
