Quinn Johnson is Retiring

Rep. Quinton Johnson, D-Middletown, just announced he won’t be seeking re-election after this term. He’s been in the House for 12 years and co-chairs the Joint Finance Committee that writes the budget each year.

“It’s time for me to give back that time to my family,” he said.

This is good news in that Johnson has always been too conservative on some issues. The bad news is do we have time to find a good candidate in a swingy district to keep this seat? Middletown has been trending Democratic for years, but the other Middletown area districts are held by Republicans.

Delaware politics from a liberal, progressive and Democratic perspective. Keep Delaware Blue.

  1. At least he didn’t announce AFTER the filing date like some of our friends at leg hall have done.

Quinn Johnson consistently opposed additional tax bracket creations also. Our Dem caucus has had the super-majority necessary to create additional brackets for quite a few sessions. Bills were never allowed to the floor by the Speaker to protect dems who would have to **** or get off the pot or be exposed as the Chamber of Commerce hustlers they were.

There are 2 RDs in Middletown. One is held by the Republicans (9th). The other is this one. There are two Senate seats as well, held by Ennis and Hansen (Democrats). Also, both County Council seats are held by Democrats (Bell and Carter).

It is quite possible that Dems will take BOTH house seats this year.

Both of those RD’s were held by Republicans as far as I’m concerned. Any replacement by the same Chamber of Commerce prostitution conservative type would be unacceptable.
