“The Trump administration on Friday stepped up its effort to place a citizenship question on the 2020 Census, after the president said he was mulling an executive order to deal with the impasse and Justice Department lawyers told a federal judge they were still looking for a legal way forward,” the Washington Post reports.
“The Supreme Court has called the administration’s rationale for the question ‘contrived’ and said the government could not go forward without a solid justification. On Friday, Trump and a key official mentioned other possible reasons for adding the query in statements that added to a week-long swirl of contradictions and that could make the administration’s case even more difficult.”
Playbook: “If the administration goes in this direction, it will likely end up in courts again, and those courts have already blocked this.”
“Britain’s Ambassador to Washington has described Donald Trump as ‘inept’, ‘insecure’ and ‘incompetent’ in a series of explosive memos to Downing Street,” the Daily Mail reports.
“Sir Kim Darroch, one of Britain’s top diplomats, used secret cables and briefing notes to impugn Trump’s character, warning London that the White House was ‘uniquely dysfunctional’ and that the President’s career could end in ‘disgrace.’”
So? Anything untrue? He was being candid with his government.

Mr. Obama had it easy on the economy, Mr. Trump added, but let America’s allies walk all over him.”
“The litany of criticisms, often distorted, are familiar, but Mr. Trump has turned increasingly to Mr. Obama in recent days as a political foil.”
President Trump slammed Joe Biden on Twitter, calling the Democratic presidential frontrunner as a “reclamation project.”
Said Trump: “Joe Biden is a reclamation project. Some things are just not salvageable. China and other countries that ripped us off for years are begging for him. He deserted our military, our law enforcement and our healthcare. Added more debt than all other Presidents combined.”
He added: “Won’t win!”
“After spending weeks under fire for his decades-long history on race and civil rights, Joe Biden on Saturday gave the most forceful defense yet of his record, emphasizing his time as vice president to Barack Obama, and also did something he had resisted in the past — apologize for warmly reminiscing about his working relationships with Southern segregationists,” the New York Times reports.
“Mr. Biden, who previously had been defiant about those remarks and is often reluctant to issue apologies for his past comments and positions, told a heavily African-American audience gathered in South Carolina, a crucial early-voting state, that he regretted those remarks, which had sparked backlash from many Democrats.”
Longshot 2020 Democratic hopeful Mike Gravel tweeted on Friday his presidential campaign is “nearing its conclusion” and asked his followers where he should donate his campaign money, CBS News reports.
“Pete Buttigieg stunned the Democratic presidential field with a nearly $25 million second-quarter fundraising haul,” the AP reports.
“Now he needs to figure out how to use that money to build a campaign that can go the distance against nearly two dozen rivals — many of them better known — and ensure that enthusiasm from donors is matched by support from voters.”

President Trump said on Friday mass deportation roundups would begin “fairly soon” as U.S. migrant advocates vowed their communities would be “ready” when immigration officers come, Reuters reports.
Said Trump: “They’ll be starting fairly soon, but I don’t call them raids, we’re removing people, all of these people who have come in over the years illegally.”
President Trump took aim at the Federal Reserve on Saturday, labeling it the “most difficult problem” the U.S. faces, The Hill reports.
Said Trump: “Strong jobs report, low inflation, and other countries around the world doing anything possible to take advantage of the United States, knowing that our Federal Reserve doesn’t have a clue! They raised rates too soon, too often, & tightened, while others did just the opposite.”
He added: “As well as we are doing from the day after the great Election, when the Market shot right up, it could have been even better – massive additional wealth would have been created, & used very well. Our most difficult problem is not our competitors, it is the Federal Reserve!”
Found the Washington Monthly article about the Dem leadership to be spot on, in particular that even after Bernie the fools still think core Democratic policies are not popular with the American people. They remain out of step with the Dem base, unable to deal with AOC and others that are bringing the change they strive to hold back and have long lost the spirit of FDR and the New Deal. Americans want change, not antique politicians afraid to upset an imaginary boat, and we’re not going to get it with nanct Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.
