Public Transit Bus Passes for Students

Senate Bill 166 passed the Senate again 21-0 after the House amended the bill to require District and Charter Schools to report the number of students using DART passes each year. The amended bill passed House 41-0.

Senator Laura Sturgeon’s bill allows schools to provide annual public transportation (DART) buss passes to their students in grades 6 through 12 for travel to and from school, sporting events, after school activities and summer jobs.

Senator Laura Sturgon: “Every family has to make a choice about the transportation option that works best for them, whether that’s the yellow school bus, walking to school or carpooling. This law will simply add another option for parents and guardians to get their kids to school safely, affordably, and on time. My hope is that this option will make life easier for working families and possibly even open opportunities for more children to participate in sports and after-school activities.”

WHERE IS THE BILL NOW? Passed Senate 20-0-1. Amended and passed by the House 41-0 and then passed the Senate again 21-0.
