SB24 – Expanding Access to Medical Marijuana

Anthony Delcollo was become the Pot King of the General Assembly with what I think are now three bills where he is expanding or streamlining or clarifying access to medical marijuana for certain patients. I fully expected him to be a sponsor of the full Legalization of Marijuana that was filed yesterday. Alas, he was not. I wonder why that is.

Senate Bill 24 would allow amend the Medical Marijuana law and allow a patient to qualify for a valid registry identification card to purchase and use medical marijuana for any condition that a physician certifies that medical marijuana would likely provide a therapeutic or palliative benefit. This would have the added benefit of helping ease the opioid epidemic if medical marijuana can be used as a pain reliever for conditions normally treated with opioids.

This Act removes the requirement that only certain specialists may certify the use of medical marijuana if the patient is younger than 18 years old. This Act retains the requirement that qualifying patients younger than 18 years old may only receive marijuana oil.

WHERE IS THE BILL? Senate Health & Social Services 3/6/19
