HB84 and HB86 – A Gas Tax for Airplanes

It looks like the General Assembly will be voting on a gas tax this session, just not one on gas to be used in cars. State Representative Ed Osienski, with bipartisan co-sponsorship, has introduced two bills that will require certain aircraft pay an annual fee and that will levy a 5 cent a gallon tax on aviation jet fuel. The money raised by these two bills will be deposited into the Transportation Trust Fund, which I suppose will be used for road infrastructure projects.

HB86is the bill that imposes a 5 cent per gallon tax on certain aviation jet fuel.

WHERE IS THE BILL? Released from committee and awaiting consideration on the House floor

DEMOCRATIC SPONSORS – Osienski, Baumbach, Brady, Sokola, Lynn, Jaques

REPUBLICAN SPONSORS – Wilson, Hensley, Briggs King, Postles

HB84 is the bill that requires certain registered aircraft owners to pay an annual fee. The bill does provide exceptions for registered aircraft based in this State.
