Constitution Amended – ERA Passes Senate

The Delaware Senate passes HB1, the second leg of the constitutional amendment process to add the Equal Rights Amendment banning discrimination based on sex. It passed the House and Senate last year, but in order for a constitutional amendment to be added to the Delaware Constitution, it must again be passed by a two thirds majority in each chamber of the General Assembly in the next successive session.

Last week, the ERA passed the House 35-6. This evening, it passed the Senate 16-5. The Republican no votes are: Bryant Richardson, Dave Lawson, Gerald Hocker, Brian Pettyjohn and David Wilson.

The Constitution is officially amended.

  1. Yay!

  2. Mitch Crane

As a Sussex Countian, I am embarrassed that 4 of the 5 No votes came from 4 of the 5 Sussex County Senators. All Republicans. Thank you Ernie Lopez for knowing what century we live in.

  3. Actively looking for people to run against Hocker. Any takers?
