HB1 – The Equal Rights Amendment

HB1 is the final step in enacting an Amendment to our State Constitution providing equal rights on the basis of gender. This bill will be taken care of right away in the session that begins Tuesday, because it is already scheduled for a committee hearing in the House Chamber of Legislative Hall on Wednesday, January 9th, at 2:30 pm.

Last year, this bill passed by the required 2/3rds margins in both Houses of the Assembly: 35-6 in the House and 17-4 in the Senate. In Delaware, Constitutional Amendments are required to pass by 2/3rd margins twice in consecutive sessions of the Assembly. The horrible sexists who voted against the bill last year are all Republicans and all were from seats downstate, both not shocking details (Yearick , Wilson, Postles, Kenton, Collins, Dukes, Richardson, Simpson, Hocker, Lawson)
