Well, not sounds like. He flat out says it. In an interview with the Washington Post, the former Vice President says President Donald Trump’s contentious and oftentimes baffling treatment of American allies makes him feel “guilty” that he doesn’t want to run for President in 2020.
“It makes me feel guilty about not wanting to [run for President],” he told the Post. “But it doesn’t make me want to. I’m not looking to live in the White House, I’ve seen it up close.”
He then walked back his comments. “But all kidding aside, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” he added. Yeah, yeah. You don’t want to run, but you feel an obligation to the country and the world to dispatch Trump to political oblivion.
But honestly, after the message sent last night with the victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over Joe Crowley, older Democrats shouldn’t feel guilty about letting go of ambition and power. If you are in your 70’s or 80’s, and have been in politics since your 20’s, you are out of time. Literally and Figuratively. It is time for you to go. A new generation of Democrats is willing and able and ready to fight. They can do your job. Be humble, and step away.
Joe Biden will be a powerful surrogate and maybe even mentor. He has always known how to connect with the vaunted “middle class whites” without being a racsit bag of shit and, while I hate that pols must coddle those awful people, it kind of has to be done.
chuckNnancy need to take note. I wouldn’t mind seeing Pelosi as the next speaker in 2019 because of the rage strokes it would induce, but If we are able to end this national nightmare, it might be time for her to hang up the gavel. I do not have a suggestion on who would replace her, certainly none of the crusty old white men “in line” for it….so by all means, drag me for that.
Sadly, the broad anti-Trump movement, from all corners of the Democratic and independent electorate, means a lot of “centrist” Democrats will also be elected. I don’t like Pelosi (please take note, delacrat — there a difference between saying she’s effective at her job and endorsing what she says and does), but if the alternative is Conor Lamb, give me Pelosi.
I’m not especially interested in Biden as President (but will take him over the current shit show any day of the week), but I can see Biden going toe to toe with GRIFTUS and leaving the GRIFTUS on the floor without some of his supporters. It is a matchup that counts on Joe’s experience (he does have it) and his empathy (he does have it) to prevail in a way that bolsters Biden’s credibility and undermines the GRIFTUS. Think back to his debate with Sarah Palin. He did incredibly well there and I didn’t expect him to. Thought it would be a festival of mansplaining that would just help her. He could do this and get some of the MAGAts with him.
That’s not all that important if there is a Dem candidate who can get more Ds out to vote in the first place.
There are two people who can get the dems out to vote: Sanders and Warren. The progressives are forcing the centurists to either go progressive or get the hell out of the way.
Biden won’t run or if he did…win! He should stay out and keep what credibiilty he now has.
