Right to Work is Wrong Rally in Sussex County

Local Sussex County Democrats and progressives are holding a rally at the Circle in Georgetown on Tuesday, January 2 at 9:00 am prior to a hearing in the Sussex County Council Chambers at 10 am.   Joanne Cabry of the Progressive Democrats of Sussex County suggests that attendees “bring a home-made sign [and] focus your message on why this ordinance is wrong for Sussex and Delaware.”  “Let your message convey… I live here or I work here or I vote here in Sussex.”

After the rally, attendees plan on attending the Sussex County Council meeting in order to testify against the Republican Right to Work for Less ordinance.   Even if you don’t testify, your presence will signal to the Council that there is wide-spread opposition to this anti-worker ordinance.

Here is the Agenda item at the Council meeting that concerns the Anti-Worker ordinance:

10:45 a.m. Public Hearing: “An ordinance to add a new chapter 117 to Sussex County code entitled “labor unions” to prohibit certain union matters in private sector employment, including prohibition of mandatory union membership and payment of union dues or fees as condition of employment; involuntary union pay deductions; and acts of coercion related to union support or membership”

If you can’t make the Rally or the Hearing, you can submit your testimony on line at https://sussexcountyde.gov/county-council
