A new Monmouth poll finds President Trump’s job approval at 32% to 56%, the lowest since he’s taken office. The decline in Trump’s job rating has come much more from women, currently 24% to 68%, than from men, which is 40% to 44%. Democrats lead the generic congressional ballot by 15 percentage points, 51% to 36%.
A new Quinnipiac poll finds President Trump’s approval rate is a dismal 37% to 57%. In an open ended question asking for the right word for Trump, voters are overwhelmingly negative with the most popular word being “idiot,” followed by “liar” and “incompetent.” Said pollster Tim Malloy: “President Trump is known for hurling insults and he’s getting slammed right back.”
The same Quinnipiac poll finds American voters disapprove of the pending Republican tax plan by a wide margin, 55% to 26%, and 43% say they are less likely to vote for a U.S. Senator or Congressperson who supports the plan. Key finding: “Only 16% of American voters say the tax plan will reduce their taxes, while 44% say it will increase their taxes and 30% say the tax plan will have little impact.”
A new Des Moines Register poll in Iowa finds that 60% of voters disapprove of the way President Trump is doing his job as president while just 35% approve. Said one voter surveyed: “It just seems like it’s one big mess.”
A Politico/Morning Consult poll finds that 50% of registered voters say the sexual misconduct allegations that more than a dozen women have made against Donald Trump are credible, compared to just 29% who disagree and 21% who are unsure.
“Democratic voters believe the allegations are mostly credible, however, by a 62 percent to 25 percent split. Independents find the claims of misconduct credible by a 2-to-1 margin, 50 percent to 24 percent. Republican voters are split evenly: 38 percent find the charges credible, but the same percentage thinks they are not credible. Similarly, self-identified Trump voters in 2016 are also divided: 39 percent think the charges are credible, and 37 percent think they are not credible.”
Finally, a Marist poll shows that protecting undocumented immigrant youth from deportation should be a no-brainer for Congress. “By an 81-15% margin, Americans support allowing Dreamers to stay in the U.S. and gain legal residency.” 58% of Americans back citizenship (“should be allowed to stay in the United States and become citizens”) while 23% back legal status short of citizenship (“should be allowed to stay in the United States and become legal residents but not citizens”). According to the poll, support for Dreamers extends way past party lines, with 92% of Democrats, 82% of Independents, and 67% of Republicans supporting legalization for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. Only a fringe 15% support deporting Dreamers.
