It’s Manafort and Gates!

Via NYT:

WASHINGTON — Paul Manafort and his former business associate Rick Gates were told to surrender to federal authorities Monday morning, the first charges in a special counsel investigation, according to a person involved in the case.

The charges against Mr. Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, and Mr. Gates, a business associate of Mr. Manafort, were not immediately clear but represent a significant escalation in a special counsel investigation that has cast a shadow over the president’s first year in office.

Thoughts? Personally, I was prepared for a smaller fish, but this makes sense.

  1. so many thoughts.
Turning himself in, to me, hints that there could have been a deal struck. He avoids the chair by publicly surrendering, then flipping on Dipshit.

This could be all there is. improper as all the contact was, maybe none of it was illegal. (think Comey’s comments on HRC email servers)… in fact, team Dump could use that to show “see, its just part of politics”. That would be too awful to think about… Manafort being arrested for something unrelated to Putin helping 45 win, and the investigation being closed.. It’s too horrible to think about, but then again, so was the GRIFTUS winning. Im not sure if this is an actual thought, or my new, comfortable, cynicism thinking, but Manafort is a total criminal who is probably guilty of a ton of shit.

Also, apparently, http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/jared-kushner-made-unannounced-trip-saudi-arabia/story?id=50801198 Kushner got out of the country unannounced. Isnt that why you do these closed and public indictments? to watch what people who are worried about getting caught might do?

Fox (website anyway) seemed ready to toss Manafort off the Island this morning. It’s almost as if they are relived that it was him.

  2. This is a fast moving story:

JUST IN: Paul Manafort, Rick Gates indicted by federal grand jury on 12 charges, including conspiracy against the US

  3. The question remains Manafort, Gates and who else? Doubtless Manaforte “knows something”, perhaps a great deal and Mueller will begin putting the pressure on this dynamic duo of dirty dealing. Will they sing and who will they sing about? Judging from the all hands on deck reaction of the Republicans, including the pathetic “Hilary gave our uranium to Russia!’ story, they fear a house of cards effect. Suspect their fears are well grounded.

Manafort was at the Trump Tower “Magistsky Act” meeting with Donnie Jr and Kushner summer before last. That’s why they are working so hard on the uranium story.

      • So many meetings, so many Russians, perhaps somebody should write a book…… Then again I’m sure that’s coming.

  4. “Many of the charges were based on activities that largely took place before their work on Trump’s campaign.”

But, proper vetting would have been better!

    • You’re way out of your depth here, fella. Probably best to just shut your pie hole until all the facts are out.

      • Hey, AL. I just quoted from the NJ and said that they should have vetted the guy, before they got involved. You read to much into it!

        • When you quote something, you should say you’re quoting it. Otherwise what’s the point?

And now that you’ve said you were quoting the NJ, why did you? What was your point?

          • Al, sorry. Yes I should have stated where the quote cam from. Because it was not mentioned, by Pandy. Just wanted that info noted, but you rely on half truths anyway. Enjoy your evening, AL!

  5. Point of Order

Just think how much ground was covered since May. Think brdge; the Special Council is trying to tease out higher Trump cards. If he starts this high, there is more to come.

  6. Boom!

WASHINGTON — A professor with close ties to the Russian government told an adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in April 2016 that Moscow had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton in the form of “thousands of emails,” according to court documents unsealed Monday.

The adviser, George Papadopoulos, has pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I. about that conversation. The plea represents the most explicit evidence connecting the Trump campaign to the Russian government’s meddling in last year’s election.

    • cassandram

And the plea agreement notes that there might be more to come from Papadopoulos. So it is interesting, right? The Russians hack the DNC in March and then this guy gets told by the Russians they have Clinton emails in April.

  7. Do any of you doubt that President Pence will pardon all.

    • Or Trump just pardons everyone before he himself were removed from office (which will never happen)… If they are pardoned, Trump or Pence doing the pardoning, I’m hopeful that person would enjoy the same fate as Gerald Ford

      • Suspect the famed constitutional crises is inevitable as Trump has shown himself capable of using the presidential pardon with little restraint, regardless of political affiliation no other president would have pardoned Arpaio.

      • cassandram

I’ve read that Mueller has a team looking some of the limits of Presidential pardons as they might relate to this case. Don’t know what this means other than the fact the Mueller looks to be working at covering all of the bases.

    • Yes, I seriously doubt that. Are you putting up money on this?

  8. I suspect the George Papadopoulos story is actually the most significant when it comes to getting to the king pin, since it was about actual collusion and he’s already prepared to sing, but the others may follow suit.

    • If Papadopoulos sings the right tune suspect other canaries will join the chorus. But it’s early yet, and tomorrow beckons.

    Amazing.

  10. Yawn. Digging for months with an army of lawyers wasting taxpayer dollars and this is what Dems are pinning their hopes on?

No collusion, nothing to do with the 2016 election, and a questionable series of indictments. Not guilty plea means even Manafort recognizes Muller has nothing.

    • cassandram

So were you one of the people watching Fox Noise yesterday? I watched as people posted on Twitter what they were covering. And apparently it was Uranium One (talk about your yawn) and cooking tips. The only people dismissing this are people who believe everything Rush Limbaugh says is true.

      Keep hope alive.

    • Did you read the Papadopoulos documents? Collusion is literally there in black and white. Denial doesn’t make reality less real.

      • Yeah, OK. So if all this collusion was going on, with access to all of the campaign emails, the best they are able to come up with is a somewhat gullible unpaid intern trying to impress his boss?

The campaign didn’t take up Papadopoulos on anything he suggested with regards to Russia.

Folks, you lost an election. Your candidate ran a weak campaign. Happens all the time. Get over it and move on. Stop wasting taxpayer dollars on bullshit.
