Trump Ends DACA

Via TPM:

President Donald Trump has ended the DACA program, or “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday. The program will not accept any applications starting Wednesday.

“I’m here today to announce that the program known as DACA, that was effectuated under the Obama administration, is being rescinded,” Sessions said.

In a phone call with reporters Tuesday morning, a DHS official said on background that current DACA beneficiaries whose permits expire before March 5, 2018 would be eligible to re-apply for an extra two years of protected status over the next six months. However, that means hundreds of thousands of people whose permits expire after March 5 would be eligible for deportation as early as the next day, ABC News first reported.

I have no words. My heart hurts. This is beyond cruel. To target this group of kids tells you all you need to know about Trump and his supporters.

Heartless…and exactly who benefits from this decision? Nobody, that’s who.

  2. That Trump delegated this announcement to Sessions is pathetic. I am angry that no one has the balls to stand up for these children (Dreamers) in Congress. Not only has the United States made these young people disposable . . . Mexico has not even stepped up to the plate to welcome these highly educated, vocal, civic minded children. Mexico should be welcoming these children with a celebration if they have to go back. Shame on you Mexico!

Some of these civic minded children are serving in our military or are our first responders. We don’t need Mexico to welcome those who are more truly our own than the crazies who have nothing more to offer besides their anger and Nazi salutes.

One of the genuinely off thing about Sessions doing this is that this should have been a DHS announcement.

      • I agree Cassandra but these children and young adults have to feel so disposable when neither country seems to want them. I can’t even imagine!

This is NOT about neither country wanting them. It is about the only country they’ve ever known rejecting them specifically.

        • this country wants them. The criminal currently squatting in the oval office doesnt.

    • Get your citizenship, you can stay. dDon’t abide by the laws and not become a US citizen, then leave. That is pretty easy to understand and not hard to do.

  4. “In the next few months, eligible individuals who do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be able to request temporary relief from deportation proceedings and apply for work authorization. Let’s be clear: this is not amnesty, this is not immunity, this is not a path to citizenship, this is not a permanent fix.”

“This is a temporary stop-gap measure that lets us focus our resources wisely while giving a degree of relief and hope to talented, driven, and patriotic young people.”

    — Barack Obama, June 15, 2012

  5. @Anono: Please explain why the temporary measure should now be ended when no permanent solution has been proposed. Without a reason, the decision is therefore arbitrary.

Also, if it’s not too much trouble, please explain how this decision benefits the country.

  6. Temporary:
lasting for only a limited period of time; not permanent.

“please explain how this decision benefits the country.”

We have laws in this country, that people should follow. You want to live in the US, then apply for citizenship. What is so hard about that?
