Do you live in Red Clay School District? If so, we need you to come to the Red Clay Board meeting at Cab Calloway tonight, Wednesday, August 16th, at 7pm. On the agenda is a vote on a proposal to have Red Clay School District create a “racial equity plan.”
We need folks like you to talk about the importance of an equity plan. The lead school board sponsor, Dr. Adriana Leela Bohm, sees the “racial equity plan as one which acknowledges the historical and contemporary impact of institutionalized racism on student success (which is beyond mere test scores).
“This means that we need to look at the data on everything (suspensions, graduation rates, grades, test scores, leadership positions, who is in what school, etc.) to assess where the racial gaps are, and then we have to come up with a plan and specific policies (based on best practices) which aim to decrease the gaps which exist that are race based.”
You can make a public comment and you need to show up around 6:45 to fill out a green slip to get on the agenda. It is very important for Red Clay to hear from you on the importance of creating an equity plan that meets our kids where they are and helps them get the education they need.
Can you join us at this meeting and help speak for Red Clay kids?
