HB241 – Raising Alcohol Taxes

This bill is likely either part of the main revenue plan or part of the Plan B if the main Democratic Tax Plan does not pass.  It is sponsored by the Speaker, Pete Schwartzkopf, so this will likely pass on June 30 at the last minute.  The bill would increase the State’s alcoholic beverage tax rates by 2 cents per 12 ounce can. The rate for wine increases by approximately 3 centers per 5 ounce serving. The rate for spirits containing more than 25% ethyl alcohol by volume increases by 15 cents per 750 ml bottle.

AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 5, TITLE 4 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO TAXES ON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.

not that I mind HB 214 having a headline here (read it, it’s helping Organized labor, in the event we don’t get HB96) but I think the bill number you’re looking for here is 241. 🙂

D’oh. Thanks for the heads up. And I will read the real 214 to see if we should feature it. If it is helping Organized Labor, I think we should.

  2. And it’s the famed knee jerk reaction from the politicians to raise the “sin” taxes, can tobacco be far behind? All these games to avoid a tax increase for the precious rich, who have yet to swarm over the border following the end of the inheritance tax. Why yes, I’m shocked as well.
