SB109 – Expanding Medicaid Coverage for Mental Illnesses

Senator Bryan Townsend has introduced a bill (SB100) that would extend the same access to treatment of substance abuse disorders to those on Medicaid as those who have their own private insurance.  An earlier bill, SB41, passed, requiring private insurance companies to provide coverage of substance abuse disorders.    This bill simply extends that same benefit to those on government-funded insurance.

AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 18 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO COVERAGE FOR SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS AND DRUG AND ALCOHOL DEPENDENCY.

  1. Medicaid already covers the same treatment options, in some cases more. I’ve had to ask the state to pay for Vivitrol, a proven treatment, for clients whose private insurance wouldn’t cover it. I’m not sure what this bill means.
