School Board Candidate Responses – New Castle County Edition

Wrapping up our 2-part post about School Board Candidate Q&A: New Castle County Candidates have their say #eduDE #netDE

As we (sort of) wrap up our 2-part post about our School Board candidate questionnaire, again I want to thank each candidate who took the time out from their hectic campaigning schedule to compose thoughtful responses to our questions.

Our New Castle County Districts’ races feature some quirks and notes I think should be mentioned before getting to the responses.

Appoquinimink School District

Charlisa Edelin, Trevor Tucker, and Keinna McKnight are running for the At-Large seat on the Board of Education. None of the candidates responded to the questionnaire. Charlisa Edelin is the incumbent and current Board Vice President.

Brandywine School District

Both candidates for the District D seat, A. Melina Gillis and John A. Skrobot III did not provide email contact information with the Department of Elections, we reached out to the school district administration and they kindly forwarded our request for contact to the candidates. Melina Gillis was the only candidate to respond.

District D Candidate John A. Skrobot III is related to current Brandywine Board President John Skrobot.

Christina School District

District B: Due to the unexpected vacancy in the District B seat and in the interest of fairness to the 4 candidates for this seat, Justin Day, Angela Mitchell, Monica Moriak, and Karen Sobotker, I will be delaying the posting of their responses until we have had an opportunity to reach out to the candidate who most recently filed on April 20, 2017: Justin Day.

District G: Responses from Candidates Jeff Day, Meredith L. Griffin, Jr., and Kimara Smith will be posted here.

District G Candidate Jeff Day is not related to District B Candidate Justin Day. Incumbent Shirley A. Sutton-Saffer withdrew March 1, 2017.

Colonial School District

Incumbent Leo B. Magee, Sr. is running unopposed for reelection to the District E seat. He did not respond to the questionnaire.

Red Clay Consolidated School District

Henry Clampitt, Thomas Pappenhagen, and Ashley Sabo are running for election to the District C seat. Candidate James R. Startzman, Jr. withdrew March 30, 2017

Let’s get to it:

Thanks again to Brian at Blue Delaware for getting this up. I sent out surveys to ALL the candidates through Facebook or email. If you did NOT receive a survey, please email me at kevino3670@yahoo.com and I will get one out to you. Thanks!

    Brian,
Thank you for the time invested in developing this questionnaire for the candidates and for sharing the answers. This is particularly helpful to individuals who have not been able to attend one of the candidate forums.

  3. Amazing work, Brian!
