Donald Trump Has No Idea Who Frederick Douglass Is. Sad

Via TPM:

President Donald Trump took a wild stab at African American history Wednesday morning when he described the 19th-century black abolitionist leader, social reformer and writer Frederick Douglass as “somebody who has done an amazing job.”

“Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who has done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice,” Trump said, perhaps unable to articulate Douglass’ historically recognized role as an abolitionist leader and the first black citizen to hold a high rank in the U.S. government.

“A big impact,” Trump said. “I’m proud to honor this heritage. I will be honoring it more and more.”

Our President knows less than a 3rd grader and speaks like toddler. Then again, not sure his base knows who Frederick Douglass was either. Next time someone complains about the current state of education, point out the educational state of the public is not current.

Twitter had a field day with the Douglass statement:

  1. Not only did he not know who Frederick Douglass was — he spent most of the talk rambling on about himself. With Omarosa and Ben Carson in tow, I see. I’m taking bets for how long it will take him this month to say: “Look at all my blacks here, the blacks love me, some of my best friends are black!”

  2. Cassandra, right on. Shameful!
