Both Senator Carper and Coons have voted no on the nomination of CIA Director Mike Pompeo. This despite the fact that several Democrats (namely Feinstein, McCaskill, Manchin, Klobuchar, Kaine, Heitkamp, Hassan, Reed, Schatz, Schumer(!), Shaheen, Warner and Whitehouse) did vote for him.
Both Carper and Coons on Friday voted yes on the nominations of Retired General John F. Kelly to be Homeland Security Secretary, and of Retired General James Mattis to be Secretary of Defense. I have no problem with those votes and those nominations as I prefer real military be in those positions to put a check on the hawkish nature of other neocons in Trump’s orbit, and on Trump himself.
